Isn’t it interesting when life gives you a lesson, or a reminder of something?

The major part of my work relies on me using my own intuition to assist my clients overcome problems, blocks etc. And its easy to access in those circumstances. But it does not need to be confined to sessions with my clients.

Whilst driving the other evening I had a prime example of what I tell people about, so decided it was a good topic for this week’s blog.

When you come to a fork in the road, be it an actual road, or simply a choice as to what is the best option, listen to that little voice that we all have, (but mostly ignore). When you do ignore this little voice, as I did the other night, you realise how much time and trouble you could have saved yourself had you listened in the first place.

My example was a choice as to whether to go straight or left to reach my destination. Both options would cover a similar distance, and would take the same amount of time to travel. In the few seconds before I turned at the junction, my brain kicked into high gear and came up with all the reasons not to take the left turn, so I continued on straight.

Once around a few corners, I found out why my gut instinct had been to turn left – there was a police road block ahead and everyone was being stopped. It’s not that I had anything to hide, or did not have my drivers license, it was the time consumed, and the chance that they may find something that would cause a longer delay. So guess in future I will pay more attention to the little voice and my “gut feeling”.

A good way to practise this for yourself is to sit in a quiet place, take a few relaxing deep breaths. Then say the word “Yes” to yourself, and see how does your body feel with this “yes”. Then take a few more relaxing breaths and do the same with a “no”, and see how a “no” feels in your body. Can you feel the difference? This is how to start “tuning in” to your own intuition. Don’t worry if you don’t get it at first, its subtle and often a faint feeling, just at the edge of something. (If you want more help with this – give me a call).

Its so rewarding when a client “gets it” and recognises feelings in their body. So often we live in our heads, that’s what we are taught from an early age, so it become the natural way to react to people and situations. But now we are asked to live in the moment and from the heart!

So go out there and practise looking for the warm fuzzy feelings, reacting to them and see what happens. Please don’t try this while driving down the motorway at speed (or operating heavy machinery!). Let me know how it feels for you.

Although we missed out last year, this year I registered in time and my daughter and I once again donned our walking gear and joined the thousands of other people crazy enough to walk for 8km. We had hoped that this distance would be a little less crowded than the 5km from 2 years ago, but if anything it was even more popular.

It was very well organised, with plenty of water and powerade on hand. The Park and ride really gets my vote, all they need to add now is a means of getting you to the start line without walking the extra 2km!

How many people?

And even more looking the other way!

It took 10 minutes of slow shuffling to get to the start line once the race had begun!

Luckily we made it to the end, sore feet, hot and tired. It was great fun, but I am in no hurry to do it again, especially as I am finding it difficult to walk around today!

Getting closer to the finish

So to all those intrepid walkers, well done.

There is something about the first post – it seems like a really good idea in theory, but making a start has been a stumbling block for me. But here goes anyway! Its strange how I keep saying to myself, I’ll do it on Friday, or Monday but there is no time like the present to simply sit down and type!

Bath time fun

I really want to share a few pics with you about a recent trip to Kruger National Park in June. Apart from what has now become almost a ritual chase by a lone Bull elephant, we also had a rare treat of watching another elephant have his daily bath and splash in a waterhole. This is one time I really wanted a video camera, but still had loads of photo oppurtunities with my Canon camera.

So on the cold dark winter mornings, here is something cheerful to look at, and maybe a smile. Enjoy!
